Within one hours travelling time of Woodhill Hall you will find numerous venues to visit including 100s of Castles and Country Houses, also beautiful beaches and many many more places of interest.

Bamburgh Castle - Stands on a rocky outcrop on the very edge of the North Sea. It commands stunning views of the Farne Islands, Holy Island and land' ward to the Cheviot hills.
It has been extensively restored, first by Lord Crewe in the 1750's and in 1890 by the 1st baron Armstrong, engineer and industrialist, where today it is still owned by the Armstrong family.

The castle is arguably the finest castle in all England, to view brief details about its history you may Click Here.

Warkworth Castle - This was the home of the all powerful Percy family, who it was said wielded more power than the King himself.
Most famous of them all was Harry Hotspur, immortalised in Shakespeares 'Henry IV', Shakespeare calls him 'the never-daunted Percy' and portrays him as a restless hot-head. Proud and arrogant, he was a bold fighter and impetuous to the point of rashness.

Alnwick Castle - Was also owned by the Percy family since 1309, originally built to defend Englands northern border it is now the family home of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland.
It is the largest inhabited castle in England after Winsor.
The castle is at the heart of a working estate, farming, forestry and land management, also providing a palatial setting for its exquisite collection of art treasures.
It is also The Regimental Museum of the Northumberland Fusiliers.

Belsay Castle & Belsay Hall - Are at the centre of an estate that has belonged to the Middleton family since the 13th century. They lived in the castle until 1817 and from then until 1962 in Belsay Hall. The estate is now owned and run by English Heritage.

Cragside - A Victorian manor house set in 900 acres. Once again the 1st baron Armstrong, engineer and industrialist features here. Built on a bare and rugged hillside above Rothbury, Cragside became one of the most modern and suprising houses of all time in the country.
In the 1880s, the house had hot & cold running water, central heating, fire alarms, telephones, a Turkish bath suite and a passenger lift - but most remarkable of all - it was the first house in the world to be lit by hydro-electricity.
Millions of trees and bushes were planted to cover the bare hillside to create the outstanding wooded estate you will see today.

Roman Sites - There are many sites of historic interest - The Roman or Hadrian's Wall built some 2000 years ago defined the northern frontier of Romes mighty Empire.
Today it is a World Heritage Site, with the surrounding country forming a stunning background and offering miles of exhilarating walks.

Kielder Water - A beautiful experience - sailing, water sports, a cruise around the reservoir, fishing and a swimming pool. All this set in the vast Kielder forest where lakeside & forest trails offer the visitor many pleasant surprises - see also some of natures legendary predators at the Birds of Prey Centre.

Northumberland Heritage Coast - Beautiful beaches and coastal villages at Craster, Warkworth and Alnmouth.
The whole family will enjoy mile upon mile of unspoilt beaches.

Newcastle - Try an evening out, with Chinatown, theatreland and as with all large cities lots of shopping facilities.
A short trip over the Tyne to Gateshead will bring you to Europes largest indoor shopping centre the Metro Centre a state of the art shopping centre with a childrens playland at Metroland. Everything you will ever need all housed under one roof with loads of parking available.
